When you care for an exotic bird, such as a parrot, you need to ensure that you know what to feed it. Much of the time, people are unsure about what they should give these birds. Like any other animal, parrots need a balanced diet. They want food that gives them all the vitamins and minerals they need. That is to say that you should make sure that the food you give your parrot is as varied as it can be. So, what should you feed your bird?
Pasta & Grain Products
You might think that feeding a bird pasta is a little weird, but it could be the best thing for your pet. This food group is high in starch and sugar, which means that it will give lots of energy to your pet. Aside from that, you might want to give your parrot some grain products. You can get these treats online, and so they are an easy staple for your pet’s diet. You should know that grains make up 50% of your parrot’s diet.
Seeds & Nuts
Seeds and nuts are the most obvious food for birds of all types. You can get loads of seed mixes and nut feeders online. While these things do give your parrot nutrients, fresh food is always better. If you want to make sure that your parrot is as healthy as it can be, you should give them a mix of both fresh and dried food. That way, they will have all the things they need to sustain themselves.
Fruit & Vegetables
When it comes to fresh food, there are two major groups that you don’t want to miss. Yes, fruit and vegetables are excellent for your bird. In fact, these groups should make up a massive 45% of your pet’s diet. Your parrot will relish everything from beets and broccoli to sprouts and carrots. Much of the time, you can give your pet raw vegetables, and so these snacks are easy to prepare. Leaves, such as spinach, are also great for your parrot. When it comes to fruit, these sweet treats are ideal for your pet. From bananas to pears, your bird will adore these things. If you want to give your pet fruit, such as apples, make sure that you remove the seeds before doing so.
Dairy & Meat
You should give your parrot meat and dairy products in moderation. These things should only account for around 5% of your pet’s diet, and so you need to dish them out in small amounts. Before you give your parrot any meat, you need to be sure that you cook it well. Raw meat is not good for a bird, and so you ought to avoid it. You can also give your bird some dairy products as a treat but don’t so this too often.
You can get loads of pellets and dry food online, which meet the dietary needs of your bird. These things do have the nutrients that your parrot needs, but you should not use them all the time. If you want your bird to be healthy, you need to feed them a mix of dry and fresh food. It is that simple!
By now you should know what parrots like to eat. If you can mix the above and give your bird a varied diet they will live a happy and healthy life.
